A day earlier, West Philly hosted Porchfest, its all-volunteer music festival. Billy Penn contributor Hanbit Kwon shares photo essays on both.The annual Roots Picnic had a rough Saturday [Inq$] due to cleanup from overnight storms that delayed its opening by hours. Sunday went off on schedule. Batala Philly, outfitted in rainbows, energized the crowd as the March began. (Hanbit Kwon) Local champs learn lessons about words and nerves at national spelling bee Jayden Jiang and Isaac Geremew represented the region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee last week.
